Brainpop Jr. made its first appearance in our classroom today.  Mrs. Bruno LOVES to show these fun 3-minute clips to go along with our social science topics!  We also learned about math centers.

We took our spelling test in Mrs. Johnson's room this morning.  We also had the chance to silent read and go to the library.  We also finished working on our brain bubbles.

We'll do touch math, dice, iPads, and a quiz in math centers today.  We also talked about continents, countries, and states in social studies.  Mrs. Bruno taught us a song to learn the continents!!

Congrats to Molly Brown for being this week's Good Citizen!

What a crazy day!!!  We combined our classes today becasue Mrs. Johnson has a meeting at the board at 1:00.  We had a great day in language arts!!!!  Our class talked about urban, suburban, and rural areas (to go along with our social studies unit).  We wrote on our response sheet about the book we read yesterday called A Pet that Fits. We made a brain bubble about small moments, and then we began writing about those small moments.

We have not had math yet, but we'll go over some number sense skills (writing numbers in standard form, expanded form, number word form, and sketch form).  We'll also go over what our homework looks like and have a social studies lesson.

We're looking forward to Friday!  Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

We took our very first comprehension test in Mrs. Johnson's room.  It was on Jamaica Louise James, and we were reading that story because it talked about an urban area.  We also did centers and made sentences and played games.

In math, we did centers, too.  Mrs. Johnson's class got 71.5% of their SplashMath questions correct.  We want to see if we can beat them!!!!  : )  We'll let you know!!!

It's snack time right now, and then we'll head to our first counselor's class.

In math, we practiced standard, number word, and expanded form.  We also discussed and drew pictures of urban, suburban, and rural areas and had a little 2nd grade debate!  It was fun!!!

Happy Monday!!!!

Today, we read our StoryTown basal for the first time.  It was about a little girl's grandmother who rode the subway.  We happen to be talking about subways in social studies right now.  We've learned that subways are a part of urban areas.  Mrs. Johnson introduced a comprehension sheet for tomorrow night's homework.

In math, Mrs. Bruno introduced SplashMath to us, for personal use this time.  We checked our username and password, and we'll begin playing on it next week.  We also learned about urban areas, suburban areas, and rural areas in social studies.

We're headed to computer for our special after we're finished with snack time!!!!  We're looking forward to another great week!!!!!  :)

In Mrs. Johnson's room, we did writing workshop.  We read If You Take a Mouse to School.  We also did centers.

8/18/14

We completed our Math 4 Today morning work, along with copying our spelling words.  Mrs. Johnson's friends came over to check Math 4 Today.  We also caught up on the students who didn't do Math Magician last week.

In our math block, we took our timed test, learned about our new fact fluency folder homework, and built numbers on our white boards.  In our language block, we talked about writing workshop and how to have neat handwriting and write complete sentences.  We read Back to Front and Upside Down.

We're eating a yummy snack before our read aloud.  Mrs. Bruno is REALLY proud of our behavior today.  We are LISTENING and FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS very well today, which was a big problem last week.  We're finally getting the hang of things!  : )

8/15/14

Today, we had silent reading instead of morning work.  It has been a VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY crazy day.  We TRIED centers today for the first time.  Unfortunately, our fire drill and tornado drill took up some of our center time, so we rushed through the end.  Next week will be better!  We did Math 4 Today quiz, social studies, iPad, and Math About Me centers.

Congrats to Bragan for being our good citizen!!!!!  Have a happy weekend!

8/14/14

We finished this week's Math 4 Today and checked it.  We also looked at what tomorrow's quiz will look like.  Six more students did Math Magician today to work on math facts.  To learn how we'd practice math fluency we learned about Kim Sutton songs.  We wrote down all the numbers we heard.  We also talked about what mathematicians look like and what good mathematicians do.  We started creating our own mathematician.

We looked at our IXL homework and are eating snack before read aloud and PE.

8-13-14

This morning, we checked Math 4 Today with Mrs. Johnson's class.  We finished our math assessments and worked with base 10 blocks again, as well as whiteboards.

We also learned about how to do our Wednesday night homework.  We read the passage and then look back in the passage for the answers.  Underlining the answers helps Mrs. Bruno know that we really looked back for the answers.  Mrs. Bruno knows that some of us have church on Wednesday night, so she reminded us that using our time wisely AT SCHOOL will minimize the time spent on homework AT HOME.

8-12-14

This morning, we came in and unpacked and went straight to our morning work.  We wrote 10 of our 15 spelling three times each.  We also learned about "Math 4 Today" with Mrs. Johnson's class in here.  We learned how to do our oral math fluency with Math Magician.  We built numbers with our base 10 blocks and learned that there's MORE than just one way to come up with an answer.  We also took a look at our math resource page that will stay in our binders all year and help us if we need a hint.

We're eating snack and about to have a read aloud with Mrs. Johnson's for the first time.

We got together in Mrs. Johnson's class to learn how to do our spelling sentences and read a book about fireflies called Fireflies

In Mrs. Bruno's room, we talked about math being EVERYWHERE!!!!!  We solved a puzzle about math, and Mrs. Bruno didn't even think we could.  We proved her wrong!!

We are having snack and heading to art!!  YEA!

8/8/14

We learned alot today.  We are really getting the hang of our morning routines.  We did them perfectly today.  Our morning work was to do some math sheets and unscramble some school words.

Both classes got together this morning to learn about what our math block will look like each week.  We'll do the same thing this afternoon in Mrs. Johnson's room to learn about language arts.  We got about halfway through our math screening test to let Mrs. Bruno know what we're good at and what we need work on.  We also learned about classroom jobs and found out what each one required.

We're happy to have the first week of school under our belts.  Can't wait for next week!  Mrs. Bruno says that we'll learn something special and fun this afternoon that her class does every Friday afternoon!  : )

8/7/14

This morning, we practiced our lunch choice routine and did a GREAT job!!!!  It was fun to learn about Caught Being Good tickets and how we can earn extra fun things throughout the day.  We've already had two students earn these tickets.  Good for them!!!!  Looking forward to even more!!!!

We came up with classroom rules and illustrated each rule. We are going to sign a pledge promising our classmates to follow those rules.  This will help keep peace in our room!!!!  We also learned how keeping up with pencils in both Mrs. Bruno and Mrs. Johnson's classrooms will help us earn some pretty cool things on Friday afternoons!

Now we're eating snack and headed to our very first special . . . MUSIC!!!!!  : )

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!!!

Can you believe that summer is over already???  We're back at school and starting a new year in second grade!!!!

We've learned how to enter the classroom, make lunch selections, and unpack.  We double-checked that we know how to get home in the afternoon.  Our class toured the lunchroom and learned about our new opportunity to eat from the salad bar.

Bragan says she loves her new class!!!  Audrey Kate says she's already learned alot.  Molly Brown has met new friends.  Katherine thinks second grade is great because it's like they're the boss of the school.  Alleigh learned that Mrs. Bruno is super crazy and that we'll have fun as long as the class can handle it!  Joey likes being in our class and is learning new things.  Carson says second grade is the BEST!!!  Joshua says it's the best because he loves this grade.  Karis likes our classroom.
