Happy Monday!

At the beginning of the day, we came into the classroom and silent read.  We copied spelling words and wrote spelling sentences.  Then, both classes got together for our phonics lesson before we headed to PE.  After PE, we had our language lesson with Mrs. Johnson.  We did writing workshop where we worked on our personal narratives.  We were supposed to see an e-book, but the LCD projector was going CRAZY.  We discussed our new comp sheet for centers and homework.

Then, we headed to Mrs. Bruno's room.  We learned some cool 9 shortcut tricks to help us answer addition and subtraction problems faster!!!!!!  We worked on branching, then went to lunch and recess.  After recess, we did a word problem and headed back to our homerooms!!!!!  : )

Friday, 9-27

I forgot to publish Chaney's post Thursday afternoon, and we didn't have time to write Friday afternoon.  Sorry I'm so far behind!

We did centers all day Friday, taking a Socrative.com quiz, rolling/writing/comparing three digit numbers, working on branching with Mrs. Bruno, and practicing our subtraction facts with flashcards.  We were busy, but had fun while we were working!  Thanks to Mrs. Wideman for helping with morning centers!!!

I'd like to thank all of those who were able to attend our outing to Peachtree Thursday evening.  We had a great time and hope to have even more attend next month!

this moning we worked on moningwork. Then we went to art.

Today was one of  the best days in second grade so far.  Our attention was fantastic, our behavior was fantastic, and we learned LOTS!!!  We began adding two-digit numbers in math today.  We worked with base 10 blocks and learned how to branch.  We'll be practicing this for MANY weeks!  We also did a science word problem and learned that Mrs. Bruno would allow us to do our own complete sentences, model drawings, and number sentences without the blocks to write them in now.  She modeled how she wanted us to do them.  The word problem lead us into our new science unit about the water cycle, weather, and clouds.

What a great day it was!!!!

We came in and did our morning work. Then we did math and  since We went to Mrs. Johnson for language.

Thankfully, today was a much more normal day for us.  We actually accomplished all that we needed to do academically!  Yea!  Math was fun today!  We played Aerobic Place Value.  We did our last science activity with liquids.  We'll fill in our KWL tomorrow and journal, then we'll be done with solids and liquids.

On an even brighter note, the ELMO saw the tech doctor today and was HEALED!!!!  We can now zoom in and out, and even focus!  The students do not have to squint to see the little print, and Mrs. Bruno doesn't have to prop everything up on a plastic basket to get it closer to the document camera!!!!  We are happy campers this afternoon!  THANK YOU, PALMER!!!!!

What a day we had!!!!  Mondays are always crazy because of our schedule, but today was KILLER!  Not only did we have the craziness of Monday schedule, but we also had a fire alarm.  It wasn't a planned drill, but everything must have been okay because we were allowed to come back in after about 15 minutes.  It was a little warm, but I reminded the students that it could have been worse . . . it could've been last week when it was 92 degrees outside!!!!!!

Hoping for a MUCH calmer day tomorrow!

This morning we did silent reading. Then we learned about maps and globes.

We took a chapter math test today.  Everyone did well!  : )  We also did centers today.  Centers, however, did NOT go so well.  We had a hard time listening and following directions.  I think Mrs. Bruno wanted to cry!  :(

Mrs. Bruno hopes everyone has a great weekend!  She sent us off doing "The Burger Dance," so it was a good start to the weekend!

This morning we did morning work.We went to cumputer today then we went to p.e.After that we  did some work. Then we did

We discussed our "Doubles + 1" strategies again today.  They're the hardest strategies we've learned so far, so they'll require a lot of practice.  We worked on putting numbers in order from least to greatest and greatest to least.

In science, we moved on to liquids in our matter unit.

Have a great afternoon!

Ah, early Monday . . . can't get anything finished.  We had a great day today, but it was rushed and crazy!  Mrs. White was observed in Mrs. Johnson's room today, so we didn't combine like we normally do.  (Although, who am I kidding, really? What is "normal?")

We had great fun in science today, applying what we know about the properties of solids to build towers.  Our competition was to see who could build the highest tower.  We had some great entries!!!!

Today, I began letting the students blog, instead of me.  You'll see some major growth in our ability to add details and speed with typing as the year progresses.  Be patient for the time being, though, the blogs may be a little shorter than you're used to!

Have a great afternoon!!!!!

Friday, 9-13

What a very busy Friday we had!  We had specials this morning, followed by PE.

For math, we went to the red hall computer lab to take a state computerized test called Global Scholar.  Mrs. Bruno was very impressed with our scores.  We also compared properties of solids in a Venn diagram and journaled about our experience with science this week.

In Mrs. Johnson's room, we did centers and learned about publishing our "I Like to Be Little" pieces.

This afternoon was our very first Friday Freeze!  YUM!!!!!!

Thursday, 9-12

Mrs. Bruno has morning duty in the gym this week, so we're stuck with her even LONGER than normal!!!!!  : )

This morning, we came in and read silently for about 20 minutes.  Then, we headed to Mrs. Johnson's room and read The Leaving Morning while Mrs. Bruno had math intervention.  We discussed good beginning, and we're hoping it makes the beginnings of our stories better!

After PE, we finished this week's Math Magician and worked on comparing numbers.  We reviewed how to read > and < signs.  We also glanced at our homework so we would know how to do it!  We learned two more properties of solids:  transparent and opaque.  We also looked at our solids in the baggies again and listed each solid's properties.

While Mrs. Johnson taught reading intervention, everyone came to Mrs. Bruno to watch BrainPopJr clips.  We saw a "Counting On" clip and a "Doubles" clip.  We love Moby and Annie!

In language arts, we had flex checkouts and made idea bubbles in writing workshop.

We're hoping our parents will continue to blog back to us!

Wednesday, 9-11

For morning work, we read StoryTown to review for our reading test.  We also did something new called Doodleloops.  This is where we are given an abstract picture and have to build a scene around it.  Then, we write a story to go with it on the back.

Next, we headed to specials and PE.

In Mrs. Johnson's room, we took our reading test and finished Doodleloops.  We also read library books.

After lunch and recess, we switched classes.  In Mrs. Bruno's room, we practiced double facts to our little dude who sings to us!  : )  We did a tricky science word problem and Math Magician.  Then, we did science . . . yea!!!!!  Today, we talked about properties of solids, describing four specific ones . . . flexible, rigid, rough, and smooth.  We also learned "science bad words" for properties.  Mrs. Bruno said that describing solids with words like "big," "little," "good," or "bad" were awful choices!!!!!  These words cannot give you information about a solid!  We learned better words to replace them, like comparing sizes or smells to objects everyone knows.  We observed several examples of solids and picked out which ones were flexible, rigid, rough, and smooth.  We'll learn even more properties tomorrow and observe the solids again!  Mrs. Bruno can't wait for her Friday surprise for our solids and liquids unit!!!!!

Tuesday, 9-10

Some of us had Paine Primary Singers today. Others of us did word problem morning work. We went to Mrs. Johnson's classroom for vocabulary practice. After PE, we started a brand new unit called "Solids and Liquids."  We did a K-W-L chart to see what we already knew about our new science topic.  We're very excited to be doing science.

In math, we used Base 10 blocks to build numbers with partners.  We also worked on "Solids and Liquids" word problems.

In Mrs. Johnson's room, we prepared for tomorrow's test on Arthur's Reading Race.  We'll do great!

Mrs. Bruno is looking forward to seeing all of our parents at Chat Night tonight!!!  :)

Monday, 9-9

We worked on spelling sentences this morning. Since we also had lots of time to work on them in Mrs. Johnson's class, we hope that no one will have to have homework! After specials and PE we went to Mrs. Johnson's room and read Arthur's Reading Race. We did our vocabulary lesson. In math today, we learned two new games. One was called the Jumping Game, and the other was using a hundreds chart to add and subtract to find secret numbers. We got our last word problem for communities. We were supposed to have a compliment party, but our VERY forgetful teacher left our sugar cookies on her kitchen counter. We sure hope she doesn't eat all of them tonight!!!!! : )

Friday, 9-6

Happy weekend!!! : ) Today's morning work was all about numbers and math. We practiced standard form, sketching, expanded form, and number words. Mrs. Bruno introduced our math centers, and we got to do them for the very first time. We also talked about neighborhoods and learned lots of map skills. We took a spelling test in Mrs. Johnson's room and did centers. We'd like to wish Lake and Coach G. a Happy Birthday today. Tomorrow is Jenna's bday, followed by Trace on Sunday. Congrats to James and Kaleigh for being Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Bruno's good citizens. Have a happy weekend!

Thursday, 9-5

We did morning work, editing some sentences that Mrs. Johnson wrote incorrectly for us. Computer was today's special, and then we headed to PE. We got to go to the Fitness Arcade! YEA!!! We did Math Magician, as always, and practiced last week's fluency strategy. Our word problem was about cities and suburbs. Then, we read more about communities. In Mrs. Johnson's room we checked our morning work and played Sparkle Zap. We had a great day!!! We learned lots!!!!

Hump Day 9-4

We tried to do morning work this morning, but the ELMO wasn't cooperating!!!  :(  We read a book in Mrs. Johnson's room called I Like to be Little.  We went to PE and did karate.

When we came back, we did phonics, writing, and language.  We worked on vocabulary and learned how to take a reading test.

Before lunch, we read another chapter of our read-aloud book.  We enjoyed lunch and recess, but it was awfully warm!

In math, we did Math Magician, word problems, and created numbers in standard form, number word form, expanded form, and sketching.  We created t-charts about urban and suburban living.

We are hoping that our parents will read today's post and respond back to us!  It excites us to see what our parents have to say about our day!

Tuesday, 9-3

This morning, we copied spelling words and wrote spelling sentences before we headed to art and PE.  We practiced making numbers in standard form, word form, and expanded form.  We also took our fluency test and did Math Magician.  We practiced solving word problems and learned about rural areas.

We had lunch, a read-aloud, and recess.  Boy, was it hot!!!!!

In Mrs. Johnson's room, we did phonics and centers.  We were supposed to finish our spelling sentences in our centers.  Tonight, we're supposed to complete a comprehension sheet for Jamaica Louise James for homework.

We had snack and worked on homework.  It's time to go home now!
