Skills Agenda for Aug. 31

8-28-15

Congrats to Rhiley, our Good Citizen for the week!

We had writing workshop today after our spelling test.  We finished our pictures about liking to be little.  We also read our Studies Weekly.

In math, we had our very first math test!  It was long, but we're hoping we did well.  We also discussed maps and globes and learned a fun song about continents!

Mrs. Bruno and Mrs. Johnson would like to remind everyone that snacks should consist of WATER and a HEALTHY snack.  Thanks for your help with this!  :)

8-27-15

In Mrs. Johnson's class, it was our first time to do centers with groups. One center was working on sight words using the iPads.  Another center was silent reading on the carpet.  We also looked for the short "a" and short "i" sound in small books.  Our fourth center was meeting with Mrs. Johnson to do fluency.  After centers, we did dictation on whiteboards.  To end our class period, we illustrated our I Like to Be Little writing.

In math, we continued taking out 10 to subtract. We did our last lesson before tomorrow's test.  Our homework tonight will review this module's 8 lessons for the test.

First in Mrs. Johnson's room today, we took a reading comprehension sheet about being responsible.  Our class listened to Mrs. Johnson read I Like to Be Little, then we wrote about it during writing workshop.  We watched a Brainpop video about characters.  We hope that it will improve our writing even MORE!

We learned another strategy for subtracting in math today.  We're still taking out 10, but we did it in smaller numbers today.  Yea!!!!

8-25-15

We didn't have the opportunity to blog yesterday.  Our Mondays are a little crazy since they're shorter than other days.  Monday blogging will be sporadic.

We're having a great day so far!  We read a Studies Weekly called Rights and Responsibilities in Mrs. Johnson's room.  Our writing workshop today was a free write, and we also had a reading workshop that focused on great beginnings.  We watched a Brainpop about punctuation.

Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Bruno like to integrate all of their subjects, so guess what we talked about in our first social studies lesson?  You guessed it, rights and responsibilities.  We watched a Brainpop and learned about communities and citizenship.  We took a vacation from Eureka today to do Global Scholar in the computer lab.

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!

The first thing we did in Mrs. Johnson' class was to take our first-ever second grade spelling test.  We also heard about Lauren, Grace, and Preston's All About Me pictures today.  Something else that was really hard today was making paper people.  We will glue our All About Me items on these "people."  We had LOTS of fun!

In math, we worked more on making the NEXT ten.  Today's lesson was SUPER successful!  We're starting to feel better about Eureka!

Congratulations to Parker for being our first Good Citizen!  Yippeeeeeeeeeeee!  Have a great weekend!

8-20-15

In Mrs. Johnson's class, we had some free writing time.  We also had some silent reading time.  The dry erase boards came out to practice nonsense words.  Nonsense words are not real words, but they help us learn phonics.  We also started our first Studies Weekly.

In math, today, we worked on making tens and making the next ten.  We used the make ten strategy to solve math fact problems like 9 + 8 being rewritten as 10 + 7.  We'll have our first test next Friday!

We had our first math morning work assignment today.  In language, we wrote about our summer vacations and will put them together in a book.  We also read silently to ourselves.

In math, we worked on branching numbers to make number sentences easier.  We have our first science comprehension sheet tonight.

In Mrs. Johnson's class this morning, we wrote a story about our best friend.  We started reading levelized books.  That means that  they're "JUST RIGHT" books for you!!  Before we left, we had a chance to read part of our books.  We'll finish these books for homework.   In math, we worked more on Eureka.

We had TWO parents comment on our blog last night!  YIPPEE!!!  That means TWO people will get stamps on their Caught Being Good Tickets!!! WHOOOOO HOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

8-17-15

Happy Monday!!!!!  The first thing we did this morning was copy our first spelling list.  Mrs. Johnson read us My Best Friend.  Then, we read silently after that.  We decorated our writing folders, then switched classes.  Mrs. Bruno started a brand new math program with us.  (She told us she was very nervous about it, so we're going to be patient with her!!!!)  We did target practice, two sprints, happy counting, "say ten," and an exit ticket.  WHEW . . . there was a lot!!!!

Today will be our first early Monday dismissal.  We're sad that it's rainy and yucky today!!  Hoping for sun later this week!!!

SKILLS AGENDA FOR 8/17

8-14-15

It's the third day of school, and we swapped classes for the very first time today.  It's the best day ever (again).  We read a book in Mrs. Johnson's class called I Need My Monster.  We drew a picture of our own monster and then wrote a story about it.  We'll put all of them in a book to enjoy.

In math today, we talked about what math means to US!  Mrs. Bruno will put all of our ideas on a poster for us to refer to all year.  Then, we completed a page about how numbers make up our own lives.

We're excited that it's Friday.  Hope it's a great weekend!

8-13-15

Happy SECOND day of SECOND grade!  We have laughed all day.  We talked about fire drills and tornado drills. Mrs. Bruno didn't talk about this to scare us, but to prepare us!  We went outside to practice our fire drill.  While we were out there, we took class pictures. This is our favorite day so far!  Can't wait for tomorrow!

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!!

Today is our first day of second grade!  Our teacher is some super-crazy lady, and we're not really sure how anyone could let her loose!!!  :)

We've spent all day learning how to do second grade things.  We've learned rules and procedures, and we're looking forward to a great year!!!!  Whoo hooooooooooooooooo!
