we did dryerase boords with mrs.ocorner.We read a book with
mrs.johnson.

Great day today!  We worked on subtraction of two-digit numbers without regrouping.  Everyone had the option of choosing a challenge three-digit problem, too.  We worked on science word problems, which led us into our water cycle topic.  We learned the words evaporation, condensation, and precipitation and even put those words in a song!  Lots of learning going on today!!!!

we read a book about clouds. we finisht our gramer sheet . the book fair has is gon.the strateay

We have had a great day today.  Behavior was much better today, making learning much easier!!!  In math, we capitalized on our how well we did in our subtraction without regrouping challenge problem last Friday.  Mrs. Bruno was so pleased with how well we implemented the skills we already knew from addition branching into our subtraction branching before she'd given us any instruction Friday.  Today, we truly learned how to subtraction branching.  It looks like we'll be great at it.  We completed a word problem about our new science topic, and discussed the water cycle.  Can't wait for tomorrow!

We did centers. we did writing .Book fair is here. We read amasing grace.

In Mrs. Bruno's class, we went to the computer lab to work on Socrative and SplashMath.  Mrs. Johnson's class scored 82%, and we're waiting to see if Mrs. Bruno's percentage can top that.  We studied more properties of liquids in science.  We learned about bubbly, foamy, translucent, and viscous liquids today.  We'll put our knowledge of those properties to good use tomorrow in centers!!!!

9/22/14

We started a brand new week of Math 4 Today.  We also viewed Mrs. Bruno's website to know where to find important information and links.

In math, we took our timed tests and looked at our focus strategy of the week.  We'll be working with adding and subtracting 9s.  We also practiced adding two-digit numbers with branching.  In science, we discussed solids and liquids.  We learned WHAT a liquid is:  matter that doesn't keep its shape, but it DOES keep its volume.  Before we start observing liquids, we also learned some of the properties of liquids.

In Mrs. Johnson's room, we did writing workshop to finish up our sunglasses sheet.  We also read a matter book in Mrs. Johnson's room to go along with our science topic.  We learned a fun fact that glass is NOT a solid, but actually a LIQUID.  We also learned another fun fact that there are actually FOUR states of matter!  Do you know the fourth?  : )

we did ceters. we worked on speling with mrs sheaperd. we did riting workshop. we did a words. to marouw we have to turn in fluence folder. we did not go to the liybrery.

Today was a very interesting and learning-filled day. We are a little behind in science, so we spent the majority of our block on solids and liquids, with some math skills thrown in here and there. We reviewed the properties of solids, then sorted solids into a Venn diagram based on whatever properties the students wanted. Some chose to sort the solids based on flexiblity or rigidity. Others sorted the solids based on whether they were transparent or opaque. Still others chose smooth/rough, flat/3-D, colored/colorless, and corners/no corners. After exploring the properties of solids, groups of students were challenged to use what they knew about the properties of solids to build the TALLEST tower possible with the solids they were given (card board, straw, aluminum foil, paper cup, rubber band, and popsicle stick).  We measured each group's tower with a yardstick and charted it on a graph.  Mrs. Johnson's tallest tower was 8 inches, and Mrs. Bruno's tallest tower was 15 inches.  GREAT learning, thinking, and questioning going on today!!!  : )

we did centers today .we olso witing wrok shop and boggled. some of us went to the libreay . we took a reading test.mrs. johnson class got centers we will do it later in the day.we havet to sit out for 4 min for tallking in the hall. we just finsht snack.

We are so glad to finally be back on a normal schedule.  What great learning has been going on in my room today.  We did centers in math, and I worked with small groups on a very new topic:  branching addition problems.  I enjoyed watching the kids take things they already know and apply it to new situations.  I also loved watching their little minds work when coming up with questions in science about solids.  I think science really intrigues these kids, which leads them to ask excellent questions!  What a great group of students!

9/16/14

One more crazy day, and then we should be back to normal.  Mrs. Johnson's class had Global Scholar this morning, which meant we STILL couldn't have a normal schedule!  :(

In math today, we learned a cool new game called SCOOT.  We went around the room answering questions in just a few minutes.  Then, Mrs. Bruno dinged a wand, and we all swapped places.  We can't wait to play again.

In Mrs. Johnson's room, we did writing workshop.  We're making a picture and a story to go with it.  We also read books about solids and liquids.

9/15/14

Happy Monday!  Due to a very crazy schedule today, we didn't have time to let a student blog today.  We began our day with a fire drill, followed by an hour-long Global Scholar test in the computer lab, and then trying to actually get some teaching done in our rooms.  We combined to work on language arts and math.  In Mrs. Bruno's room, we learned that "branching" was a special type of number bond that used expanded form as the "branches" of the number.  We'll be practicing that a lot in the coming days.  We also worked on our fact fluency strategy of the week, making tens.

Whew!  What a day!  :)

9/5/14

In language arts class, we took a spelling test and it was easy.  We also did writing workshop with new brain bubbles.  Some friends got to go to the library, and we had a conversation about saving chapter books for third grade and on.

Math class had centers today.  We played Kakooma again, as well as rolled place value dice to compare numbers and double dice to make doubles practice problems.  Mrs. Johnson's class beat Mrs. Bruno's class in SplashMath this week, so the overall score is a tie at 1-1.  Who will win next week?  Check back to see!!!!!

9/3/14

We made up for not checking Math 4 Today yesterday by checking two days this morning.  We also learned how to do SplashMath in the computer lab.

In Mrs. Johnson's room, we did reading centers.  We had our reading test on Arthur's Reading Race.  We continued working on our stories, and some of us even finished.

In math, we went to the computer lab and worked on comparing numbers to 1000.  Mrs. Johnson' class got 84% of their questions correct.  We can't wait to see what Mrs. Bruno's class gets.  They won the competition last time.  Stay tuned . . .

Our special today is art!  Yippee!!!!
