Monday, 1-28

Good morning! We're sorry that we didn't get to blog last Friday. We had another late arrival, which threw our morning off. We felt like we were playing "catch-up" all day long. We were so excited to get to have a live chat with the Southwest FL Eagle Cam moderators. We learned so very much by asking them our questions. They sent us pictures and interesting facts. Wouldn't it be cool if we could visit Fort Myers, FL in person and see the eagles ourselves!?!?! Maybe some of us can detour that way on our family vacations, if we're already headed to FL. :) Last Friday, when we arrived late, we were supposed to have math centers. Well, we did, but Mrs. Bruno RUSHED us through them really quickly. She was in such a hurry to get them finished that we even had to have a SUPER short snack! Today has been a good day. We did two Bedtime Math activities. The first was about the GPS and how good/bad it is. We like that it tells us where to go, but sometimes it doesn't always get EVERYTHING right, as we learned today. The second problem was about a store called Wall Drug Store in Wall, SD. It's the largest single store in the country. We did math problems about what you could buy, as well as the super-huge dinosaur that stands out front. In science today, we observed and recorded data about our terrariums and aquariums. Tomorrow we'll compare our male and female fish to see how they're alike and how they're different. We hope to have some posts on our blog this evening, so parents get to it!!!! :)

Thursday, 1-17

Our internet is STILL giving us problems, but it is a little better than it's been (that's not saying much, though). When Mrs. Johnson's class came over, we did Bedtime Math about the world's largest snowman (snowwoman, actually). We also watched the "Cheetah Hunt" and "Goliath" roller coaster videos to go along with yesterday's Space Mountain Bedtime Math because the internet wasn't working yesterday. We did centers in math today, and they were all about money. We played Coin Bingo, Dollar Dice, the iPad, and met with Mrs. Bruno to count money. They were fun! In science, we watched three Sid the Science Kid video clips to go along with trees and leaeves. Mrs. Bruno said we're going to do a Tree Pantomime tomorrow. I wonder what that is, and I hope it's fun!!!! Hope our moms and dads post on our blog tonight!!! : )

Thursday, 1-10

by: Abby Happy Thursday! We came in and unpacked.Then we did a place value. We wached the ealge cam. Then we read some books about money. We also got to biger math.

Wednesday, 1-9

Happy Hump Day! This morning we read a Bedtime math about a bike that was stuck in a tree. How funny is that? We enjoyed that lesson! We learned two new math games called Snowman Math. We did Math Magician and worked AGAIN on addition and subtraction with regrouping. Then, we did our math/science word problem and read a living/nonliving book. We took a living/nonliving quiz and did very well!!! We're learning lots!!!! : ) Yum! Yum! It's snack time now!

Tues., 1-8

Even though the temperature is warmer outside, the temperature in our class is FREEZING!!!! We feel like we're having school in a refrigerator!!!! :) Mrs. Johnson's class came over for Bedtime math, eagle cam observation, and place value practice. Then, our class headed to the computer lab for Socrative and IXL. We got to do BrainPop, Jr. when we were finished. We did Math Magician and worked on addition and subtraction with REGROUPING!!!! It's snack time, and then we'll head to Mrs. Johnson's room. We have a special today. It is art!! Yea!!!

Mon 1-7

This morning, Mrs. Johnson's class came over for Bedtime Math and to be introduced to our newest eagle camera. We'll now begin following a camera near Fort Myers, FL. The second of two eggs hatched Friday morning, and Mrs. Bruno found it and watched it all weekend. She has arranged for us to have a live chat with the site's moderator, so our homework tonight is to think of a question to ask the moderator. We'll type those questions tomorrow in the computer lab. We also observed Phoebe, the hummingbird, who has two new babies, as well. They're TINY!!! We reviewed addition and subtraction. Mrs. Bruno gave us our subtraction problems, but we rolled dice to make up our own addition problems. We also read about whether or not our hair, skin, and nails are living or nonliving things. Hmmmmmmm! I wonder what our parents would think. Let's ask them! Parents, write back to us on our blog!!!!! :)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Welcome back to school!!! Happy 2013!!! We are glad to be back and in a routine again. The weeks before Christmas were CRAZY, and now maybe things will settle back down. We had Mrs. Johnson's class over this morning and learned about our new morning work for a few days a week. It's called Bedtime Math, and it's a website that sends a passage about a current event, as well as some math problems to go with it. You can even sign up to receive daily emails with the problem of the day. We decided that, since we wouldn't do them at bedtime, we'd change its name to "We-Just-Go-Out-Of-Bed-Time Math!" : ) We did some fun New Year math activities and began a new science unit on organisms. Today, we looked at what we thought it meant to be a living thing vs. what really defines a living thing. We learned that, just because something moves, it doesn't make it a living thing. We also cleared up the misconception that all living things breathe. We're looking forward to learning more in science in the coming days. Happy New Year!!!!!
