UAB had a special assembly for us today called "Kids on the Block."  It was about showing good character and how to handle certain situations that may happen to us.


In math, we worked independently on arrays in rows and columns while people took their STAR Math tests.  Then, Mrs. Bruno printed our STAR scores for us, and we graphed them on our STAR data chart.  This is something we'll be doing in third grade, so we got a jumpstart on learning to do it.  Some of us have been doing it for weeks with Mrs. Brumlow!

Our caterpillars arrived yesterday afternoon.  We took time to place them in individual cups with their own food.  We observed the caterpillars and wrote our observations in our science notebooks.  We are going to name them and write them letters. 


Today, we played Sparkle before our spelling test in Mrs. Johnson's room.  We rewrote our poems and did a grammar sheet, too.  Mrs. Johnson read us a book about butterflies to go along with our new caterpillars.  We took a sneak peek of what the book fair would have to offer next week.


In math, we measured things all over the room today.  Our exit ticket was so easy that a kindergartener could do it!  :)  We also took a fast money quiz and observed our caterpillars again.

Today, we did silent reading in Mrs. Johnson's room.  Some people went to the library.  We read a book called Marvelous Mammals and then worked some riddles about them and what they ate.  We also read a poetry book called Animal Tracks.  We started a timed reading passage about apples.  Everyone didn't get finished, though.  Some people did AR.  We also played Sparkle before our spelling test.  We also took a grammar test.


In math today, we reviewed addition and subtraction for Tuesday's test.  WE ARE READY because we are so smart.  We also finished up our study on birds by reading Molly the Owl, a book about barn owls named Molly and MaGee.  They were two of Mrs. Bruno's favorite animals to watch on an animal cam!!!!

It's been a really long time since we posted!  Mrs. Bruno was at the Huntsville Space and Rocket Center last week, and we didn't have time to blog.  We're going to get back into the swing of things now, though!!!!  :)


Today, in language, we published a friendly letter to a tree . . . any tree!  :)  (Fortunately, we learned about the parts of that tree and how it made food in science!)  The parts of a friendly letter are date, salutation, body, closing, and signature.  We also had silent reading after reading about the life cycle of a tree.


In math, we continued practicing the vertical method to add, as well as checking our answers with ANY other strategy.  We also worked on plant word problems, which lead us into a great science lesson about photosynthesis.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!


We are so excited to be back at school with our friends!!!


In Mrs. Johnson's room, we read A Snowy Day on the carpet.  (Let's hope we don't have a snowy day anytime soon!)  We also read poem called "Icy Treasures."  We did a sheet about subjects, predicates, and nouns to review what we already should know.


In math, we took a quick odd and even quiz, told Mrs. Bruno what we got for Christmas, and started brainstorming about our Super Bowl of Math word problems we'll create.


Our behavior today has been FANTASTIC!!!!  Our teachers our proud of the way we're starting the new year off on the right foot!!!!  :)
