Wednesday, 1-9

Happy Hump Day! This morning we read a Bedtime math about a bike that was stuck in a tree. How funny is that? We enjoyed that lesson! We learned two new math games called Snowman Math. We did Math Magician and worked AGAIN on addition and subtraction with regrouping. Then, we did our math/science word problem and read a living/nonliving book. We took a living/nonliving quiz and did very well!!! We're learning lots!!!! : ) Yum! Yum! It's snack time now!

Tues., 1-8

Even though the temperature is warmer outside, the temperature in our class is FREEZING!!!! We feel like we're having school in a refrigerator!!!! :) Mrs. Johnson's class came over for Bedtime math, eagle cam observation, and place value practice. Then, our class headed to the computer lab for Socrative and IXL. We got to do BrainPop, Jr. when we were finished. We did Math Magician and worked on addition and subtraction with REGROUPING!!!! It's snack time, and then we'll head to Mrs. Johnson's room. We have a special today. It is art!! Yea!!!

Mon 1-7

This morning, Mrs. Johnson's class came over for Bedtime Math and to be introduced to our newest eagle camera. We'll now begin following a camera near Fort Myers, FL. The second of two eggs hatched Friday morning, and Mrs. Bruno found it and watched it all weekend. She has arranged for us to have a live chat with the site's moderator, so our homework tonight is to think of a question to ask the moderator. We'll type those questions tomorrow in the computer lab. We also observed Phoebe, the hummingbird, who has two new babies, as well. They're TINY!!! We reviewed addition and subtraction. Mrs. Bruno gave us our subtraction problems, but we rolled dice to make up our own addition problems. We also read about whether or not our hair, skin, and nails are living or nonliving things. Hmmmmmmm! I wonder what our parents would think. Let's ask them! Parents, write back to us on our blog!!!!! :)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Welcome back to school!!! Happy 2013!!! We are glad to be back and in a routine again. The weeks before Christmas were CRAZY, and now maybe things will settle back down. We had Mrs. Johnson's class over this morning and learned about our new morning work for a few days a week. It's called Bedtime Math, and it's a website that sends a passage about a current event, as well as some math problems to go with it. You can even sign up to receive daily emails with the problem of the day. We decided that, since we wouldn't do them at bedtime, we'd change its name to "We-Just-Go-Out-Of-Bed-Time Math!" : ) We did some fun New Year math activities and began a new science unit on organisms. Today, we looked at what we thought it meant to be a living thing vs. what really defines a living thing. We learned that, just because something moves, it doesn't make it a living thing. We also cleared up the misconception that all living things breathe. We're looking forward to learning more in science in the coming days. Happy New Year!!!!!
